<P align="justify"> The burbot (< … <P align="justify"> The burbot (<i>Lota lota</i>) is a bottom dweller found throughout Lapland right up to the highest fell lakes. It varies in length from 45 to 70 cm and weighs 0.5-3 kg, although it tends to be smaller in the fell lakes. It is active at dusk and at night and prefers cold, deep waters. The burbot spawns on the bed of shallow water under the ice between January and March, and the eggs hatch after a couple of months.
