TekstiThis property is a special property in this wiki.
In winter fish n
In winter fish nets were set under the ice. This process was called juoŋas . A hole was made in the ice, and a long pole with a line attached to the end was inserted through it. Another hole was made in the ice at the other end of the pole, from where the pole was again pushed to its full length to a third hole, and so on. When the length of the net was reached, it was pulled under the ice by means of the line. The net was allowed to sink to the bottom. It had lines attached to a birch stick, which in turn was fixed to a wooden structure on the surface of the ice. This permitted the person who set the nets to find it again.
Look also [[Juoŋas (jääverkko in Finnish), a fishing net to be used under ice]].

[[Table of contents: Means of livelyhood and transport|Table of contents: Means of livelyhood and transport]]

lyhood and transport]]

+
